Compulsory Third Party (CTP) Insurance in South Australia pays compensation to people injured or killed in a motor vehicle accident. It covers third parties including passengers, pedestrians, and drivers of other vehicles, but it does not compensate the driver at-fault.
AAMI’s Driver Protection Cover (Driver Protection Cover) provided limited benefits for specific injuries to eligible at-fault drivers who were injured in a motor vehicle accident, or to the driver’s estate or dependants if the driver at-fault was killed, in a motor vehicle accident.
AAMI is withdrawing Driver Protection Cover.
New AAMI CTP Insurance policies commencing from 2 August 2023 will not receive Driver Protection Cover.
Existing AAMI CTP Insurance policies renewing from 2 October 2023 will not receive Driver Protection Cover.
For existing AAMI CTP Insurance customers, your Driver Protection Cover will cease from the date of your next registration renewal from 2 October 2023.
AAMI CTP Insurance cover will not change, and you’ll still receive the same cover as provided industry wide.
Driver Protection Cover was provided at no extra cost for AAMI CTP Insurance customers with a Passenger Vehicle (Class 1 or 51) or Goods Carrying: Light Vehicle (Class 2 or 52) if:
If you were the driver at-fault in an accident which occurs while Driver Protection Cover applies to you, you will still be able to make a Driver Protection Cover claim. Your completed Driver Protection Cover notice of injury claim form must be received within 6 months of the accident.
CTP insurance is included with your vehicle registration in South Australia. You have a few options to choose from when it comes to renewing your vehicle registration:

CTP is included in your total vehicle registration fee paid to Service SA to register your vehicle. The length of your insurance will depend on the term selected when registering your vehicle. Currently there are three options available:

When moving interstate, the action you’ll need to take will vary depending on which state or territory you’re relocating to.
If you’re relocating to NSW and bringing your vehicle with you, you’ll need to visit your nearest Service NSW centre and register. Until you register your car in NSW, it will be considered unregistered, even if you still have registration left over from where you were previously living.
If you’re moving to the ACT, you have up to 3 months to transfer your registration through Access Canberra. When doing this, you’ll need to select a new ACT MAI Insurance provider.
If you’re relocating to SA, you have up to 90 days after relocating to transfer your vehicle registration. Contact Service SA for further details.
Your CTP insurance policy is connected to your vehicle registration. To update any of the details you will need to contact Service SA either in person at one of their offices, by telephone on 13 10 84 or via mySA GOV account.

If you are injured in a motor vehicle accident in South Australia where another driver was at fault (wholly or partially) you may be entitled to make a claim for associated losses against the CTP insurance policy of that driver. Eligibility
Driver Protection Cover (DPC) is only available on a Passenger Vehicle (Vehicle Class 1 and 51) or Goods Carrying: Light Vehicle (Vehicle class 2 and 52). Drivers under the age of 25 years that do not have comprehensive insurance with AAMI or another brand within the Suncorp Group are not eligible for DPC.

Claimant Service Rating
A phone-based survey of CTP claimants, conducted by the SA CTP Regulator established under the Compulsory Third Party Insurance Regulation Act 2016
Claimants are surveyed approximately 3 months after their claim has been lodged with the CTP insurer. This survey was conducted to understand claimant experience, and covers the following areas:
The responsiveness of CTP insurers to claimants
Whether the information provided to claimants is easy to understand
The professionalism of the CTP insurer’s staff
This information will result in an average Claimant Service Rating for each CTP insurer, calculated on a rolling six month basis. The ratings are published on the SA CTP Regulator website and can also be found on registration renewal notices.
AAMI updates the Claimant Service Rating information on its website as soon as possible following publication by the SA CTP Regulator. As there may be a small delay, please refer to the SA CTP Regulator website for the latest information.
