AAMI Safe Driving NSW Research Participation Terms and Conditions

We’re delighted to have you involved in the Safe Driving NSW Research (For the rest of the document we will refer to this as the "Research”). The Research is conducted by AAI Limited trading as AAMI (“we”, “us”).

If you are selected to participate in the Research, you will be notified by us by email.  We expect the Research to commence in November or December 2024, with the exact start date to be notified to you by email. The Research will run for a period of 6 months.

Our lawyers call this document the “terms and conditions”. By participating in the Research, you agree to the terms and conditions set out in this document (“Research Participation Terms”), the AAMI App Terms and Conditions and the AAMI Driver Rewards Terms and Conditions.

For the Research, we ask you to download the AAMI Insurance App (“AAMI App”) and register for AAMI Driver Rewards by clicking on the ‘Driver’ bottom navigation tab on the AAMI App home screen. You will need to follow all the instructions on the AAMI Driver Rewards onboarding screens and allow the app access to your location, fitness and motion data and if you have an Android device, Bluetooth services. AAMI Driver Rewards will gather information relating to your driving behaviours and provide you with a score based on a series of criteria, reflecting all your trips in which you are the driver. The score displayed is calculated based on your trips over the most recent two weeks. For further information about AAMI Driver Rewards, please see AAMI Driver Rewards.

Over the 6 months period of the Research (“Research Period”), you will have 3 reward scores (“Reward Scores”), one calculated at the end of every 2-month-period. The Reward Score will be calculated based on an average of your score over the two-month period. If your Reward Score fits within one of the three tiers shown in the table below you will be eligible for a reward in the value shown correspondingly below. Following the end of the Research Period, we will provide you with a gift card (which you can redeem) for the total value of the rewards you accrued over the Research Period.

Example:

First Reward Score: Driver scores 86 over months 1-2; reward value = $10

Second Reward Score: Driver scores 92 over months 3-4; reward value = $20

Third Reward Score: Driver scores 97 over months 5-6; reward value = $35​

For the Research, Driver receives gift card to the value of $65.

Without limiting our privacy statements, we will use and modify the personal information we collect to conduct the Research, for quality and market research purposes, and to help with service and product development. We might share this information with our third party service providers for the same purposes.

Ground rules

You need to:

  • be a NSW resident aged 18-30 who holds an AAMI Comprehensive Car or Third Party Property Car insurance policy;
  • own the car that is going to be used for the majority of the Research’s duration (or have the owner’s permission);
  • at the start of the Research, hold an AAMI Car insurance (Comprehensive or Third Party Property) policy for the car that will be used for the majority of the Research’s duration;
  • download the AAMI App (following our directions) and not remove it during the Research Period;
  • register for AAMI Driver Rewards via the ‘driver’ tab within the AAMI App and not turn off or opt out of AAMI Driver Rewards for the duration of the Research;
  • inform us (by email to opsctp@aami.com.au) if you have an accident while driving during the Research Period (even if does not result in an insurance claim);
  • comply with the rules of the road at all times (including not using your phone while driving);
  • during the period of the Research, not turn off access to your location, motion and fitness data for the AAMI App;
  • consent to receiving email communications relating to the Research and not unsubscribe from them during the Research Period; and
  • relabel trips within the AAMI Driver Rewards device if someone else was driving.

If you remove the AAMI App, opt out of AAMI Driver Rewards or turn off access to your location, motion or fitness data for the AAMI App for a period longer than 14 days during the Research Period, you will be removed from the Research (see further information below).

If you unsubscribe from the research email communications during the Research Period, you will also be removed from the Research.

What you can expect from us during the Research

During the Research, we will:

  • listen to your feedback and try and help if you have an issue related to the Research;
  • after the 2 months, 4 months and 6 month mark into the Research, we will email you your Reward Score for the preceding 2 month period and the corresponding reward you have earnt based on that score; and
  • email you occasionally regarding driving behaviour insights or other relevant information for the Research.

We may utilise a third party service provider (such as an agency) in sending you research related communications. Your personal information (including name and email address) may be provided to such third party to facilitate this.

How we collect, use and share your personal information is set out in the AAMI General Insurance Privacy Statements and the Suncorp Group Privacy Policy.

We’d love to hear from you

We’d love to hear your feedback so we can continue our journey to add new features and improvements to AAMI Driver Rewards based on your feedback. In particular, if you do experience any issues, we’d appreciate it if you let us know. Let us know by emailing opsctp@aami.com.au.

If things aren’t working out

If you no longer want to be involved in the Research, that's okay with us. We'll miss you, but you don’t have to stick around if you don’t want to.

To have yourself removed from the Research, please either;

  1. notify us by emailing opsctp@aami.com.au to confirm you would like to no longer participate. We will remove you from the Research within 15 business days of receiving your email and will send you a confirmation email about your removal. Please note if you choose to notify us this way you will continue to have trips recorded via AAMI Driver Rewards. To stop trips being recorded you will need to opt out via the AAMI Driver Rewards.
  2. opt out via the AAMI Driver Rewards tab in the AAMI App. This will stop all trips being recorded and scored. We will be able to see you have opted out and will remove you from the Research after 14 days of you having opted out of AAMI Driver Rewards, and will send you a confirmation email about your removal.

Please note that if you remove the AAMI App or disable location, motion and fitness permissions for a period longer than 14 days, or if you unsubscribe from the research email communications, you will also be removed from the Research. We will send you a confirmation email about your removal. 

Following the removal from the Research, you will stop receiving any future communications about the Research. We may remove you from the Research if we determine with reasonable grounds that your participation involves tampering, dishonesty or other conduct in breach of these Research Participation Terms.  We hope that won’t happen here as we’re sure that you’ll all play by the rules.

If you are removed from the Research prior to the end of the Research Period (at your election or by us in accordance with these Research Participation Terms (other than for reasons of tampering or dishonesty)), you will be entitled to any reward which you’ve accrued at the 2 month and/or 4 month mark (whichever is applicable). You will be issued with a gift card to redeem in accordance with the process set out below (see “When the Research comes to an end”).

If you are removed from the Research prior to the end of the Research Period by us for reasons of tampering or dishonesty, we reserve the right to not provide you with any rewards you have accrued prior to your removal.

When the Research comes to an end

After the Research comes to an end, you will receive a final email with the instructions to redeem your reward as a gift card issued by GiftPay (“eGift Card"). Once the eGift Card is sent to you, you will have 3 months to select a retailer to receive a retailer’s gift card. You will be able select a retailer from the following: Woolworth, Coles, Myer, David Jones, JB HI FI or Rebel Sport. These retailers will have specific conditions related to their gift cards, including a limited period of validity, so please check these when making your selection.

Trial or research output

We own all intellectual property rights related to any data, analysis, findings or output of the Research and may use or disclose any research output of the Research, subject to our legal obligations.

No liability

Subject to any rights you may have under any law, we and our related bodies corporate are not liable for any loss suffered or incurred in connection with your participation in the Research, including any indirect, consequential, incidental, or special damages (including lost profits and loss or destruction of data).
