BUILDING ITEMS
Emergency repairs and other repair/rebuilding costs
COVERED
There are certain miscellaneous costs associated with repairs or rebuilding that can go beyond nails and timber. Here is more information on the cover for emergency repairs and other repairs/rebuilding costs under AAMI Home Building Insurance.
What's covered
When the building or parts of the building have been damaged in an incident, we’ll cover the reasonable and necessary costs of any temporary work required to make your damaged building safe from further immediate loss or damage.
When you are covered for loss or damage to the building at the insured address, we’ll cover the reasonable and necessary costs for:
- the services of professionals such as architects or surveyors
- removing debris that caused the damage and is required in order to repair the building, including fallen trees or branches
- demolishing and removing damaged parts of the building, but that aren’t part of the scope of works, from the insured address, and
- ensuring the damaged parts of your building comply with current building regulations and laws. Limits and conditions apply.
Know that the most we’ll pay for any one incident is up to 15% of the building sum insured, unless your certificate of insurance shows that you have the Complete Replacement Cover® option, in which case we pay the reasonable and necessary costs.
What’s not covered
We don’t cover the costs of removing debris that hasn’t damaged the building, such as fallen trees or branches, or lopping trees or branches that haven’t damaged the building. We also don’t cover the costs of making the building comply with current building regulations and laws if it wasn’t compliant when the building was originally built or when construction, repairs, renovations, or alterations were undertaken.
There are other exclusions to this cover, which you can learn more about in the Product Disclosure Statement.
