Jewellery and watches

COVERED

Jewellery and watches that shine, sparkle, and are of sentimental value to you deserve to be covered if they are lost or damaged due to an insured event. Here are instances where coverage will and will not be included under AAMI’s Home Contents Insurance cover.

What’s covered

We cover loss or damage to watches and personal ornaments such as necklaces, rings or bracelets typically made from or containing jewels, precious metal or antique jewellery. We have a flexible limit of $2,000 per item or set, up to a total of $5,000.

You are able to choose to increase this limit but an additional premium may apply.  When you do this, they are considered ‘Specified contents and are shown on your certificate of insurance. The amount shown on your insurance certificate will be the most we will pay for any one incident.

Remember that when you lodge a claim that includes an item valued over $3000, we will ask for proof of purchase, a professional valuation, and a photograph as a minimum.

What’s not covered

We don't cover jewellery boxes or uncut and unset gems, gold or silver nuggets, bullion and/or ingots. This cover is for items in your home only.

If you have valuable personal belongings that you usually carry with you away from your home, you can cover them at an additional cost for accidental loss or damage that occurs in and outside of your home with AAMI’s ‘Extra Cover Portable valuables’ cover. This can be for specified or unspecified items. Each of these optional covers comes with limits and exclusions. You can find out more information about the policy features mentioned above in the Product Disclosure Statement.
