CONTENT ITEMS
When contents are insured in a unit
COVERED
Particular contents are covered under AAMI’s Home Contents Insurance cover. Learn more about this cover below.
What’s covered
When you live in a unit, we also cover some contents items.
We cover household items that you use primarily for domestic purposes and are permanently attached to the unit, unless the item(s) is common property. These may include the following:
- lino or vinyl flooring installed in the unit, whether permanently attached or not
- floating floors
- air conditioners (ducted or split system) and spas for the sole use of the unit owner or occupier
- wall paint and paper.
It might be wise to check your contents sum insured – the total amount you’ve insured your contents for in your policy – is adequate. Before you do, it might be worth checking with your body corporate, owners corporation, strata, or similar body to see what is and isn’t covered under their policy.
For example, if you’ve installed floating floors, check to see if the strata insurance policy covers this. If it doesn’t, you may need to increase your contents sum insured.
What’s not covered
There are some things we don’t cover. For example, contents items that are common property. Know that if you live in a strata title building, you can obtain a copy of the strata building insurance to understand what you may or may not be covered for.
You can learn more about your cover for contents in a unit, other exclusions and conditions, and the meaning of common property in the Product Disclosure Statement.
