COVERED

The risk of flooding has become an issue many of us may have to deal with at some point. Because of that, it’s important to learn more about the extent of coverage AAMI Home Building and/or Contents Insurance can provide for loss or damage caused by flood.

What’s covered

If your building or contents are damaged due to flood, you can claim for loss or damage to them. A “flood” means the covering of normally dry land by water that has escaped or been released from the normal confines of:

  • a lake, river, creek or another natural watercourse (whether or not these have been altered or modified),
  • a reservoir,
  • a canal, or
  • a dam.

We do not insure you for flood in the first 72 hours of a new policy. Very limited exceptions apply. You can learn more about this coverage in the Product Disclosure Statement.

What’s not covered

There are instances where you are not covered for loss or damage caused by flood. These include but are not limited to, loss or damage caused by actions or movements of the sea or storm surge. There are also certain structures (e.g. retaining walls, boat jetties, pontoons) that we don't cover for flood damage under AAMI Home Building insurance or the cost of cleaning your undamaged contents due to flood under AAMI Home Contents insurance. You can see in greater detail the instances where you might not have cover in the Product Disclosure Statement.
