What is Third Party Property Damage Car Insurance?
Third Party Property Damage Car Insurance helps cover legal liability to pay compensation for damage to other people’s cars or property caused by your car (up to $20 million). This provides cover for you or anyone you allow to drive your car. For an extra cost, you can add Fire and Theft Cover, to include cover to your car for accidental damage from fire or theft or attempted theft. This differs from Compulsory Third Party Insurance (like 'CTP' in SA or 'Green Slip' in NSW), which generally covers liability for injury or death to another person from a motor accident involving your car.

Frequently asked questions
Third Party Property Damage Car Insurance helps cover your legal liability to pay compensation for loss or damage your car causes to someone else's car or property (up to $20 million), but it won't cover damage to your car (very limited exceptions).
Compulsory Third Party Insurance is a mandatory cover which may be attached to the registration of your vehicle or purchased separately, depending on the state or territory your vehicle is registered. CTP provides cover for the at-fault driver’s liability for injuries or death of other people caused in a motor vehicle accident – whether it’s other drivers, passengers in your car or in other cars, pedestrians, cyclists or motorcyclists. It does not cover damage to property or vehicles.
AAMI Third Party Property Damage Car Insurance provides legal liability cover up to $20 million for loss or damage your car causes to other people's vehicle and property. It also provides cover for damage to your car by uninsured drivers up to $5,000 if they are entirely at fault and you can give us their name, address and vehicle rego details.
The most we will pay for all claims from any one incident for legal liability covered by your policy is $20 million. We also provide cover for damage to your vehicle by uninsured drivers up to $5,000 if they are entirely at fault and you can give us their name, address and rego number of their vehicle.
If you have upgraded to include Fire and Theft cover, the most we will pay for accidental loss or damage to your car caused by fire, theft or attempted theft is the amount covered shown for your car in your certificate of insurance. You can check your car’s amount covered, including your excess, in your policy online.
You may also be entitled to some additional covers which come with your policy and paid in addition to the amount covered. Please refer to the PDS for more information.
